Welcome to the wonderful world of blogging

So, up to this point I have completely ignored any impulse to start posting the musings, thoughts, reminiscences, and opinions of one Christopher J. Seiler. There are a couple of reasons for this, one being that I thoroughly believe that I don't have that much interesting to blog about, another being the fact that I needed spell check to know how to spell the word "thoroughly". In fact, I've had this sight on Blogger for a while now, but I only signed up for it so I could make comments on real blogs. However, since I now have more than eighty people who have checked the "yes" box when asked if they would like to be my friend on MySpace, since I'm terrible at communicating individually to said friends, and since I have a ton of time on my hands this afternoon (I didn't get called in to temp this morning), I'm figuring, "What the hell, it beats going to the dentist."

Let me start with an update. I've been in New York City for about a month now, after spending three years with the American Shakespeare Center and two and a half months back in Ohio, working for Porthouse in Cuyahoga Falls. I'm going back to AMC in January but plan to be back here by April. I just joined the acting union and am trying to figure a few things out in the city before taking a full swing at the audition scene. I see no sense in half-assing it, so I'm not. I'm temping (sometimes) and doing a Shakespeare outreach program in Jersey, so that's something. At the moment I'm subletting on the upper-East side (nice neighborhood, nice roommate, small expensive apartment) but will soon be moving north to Washington Heights (not as nice neighborhood, nice roommate, much larger cheaper apartment). If you want an address get a hold of me in a couple of weeks and I'll give it to you. I'm also in the middle of a fantastic relationship (long distance unfortunately), which I am feeling really good about. For more on the young woman foolish enough to rest so many hopes and dreams upon my gray head, please visit the blog of Alisa at slceostyle.tripod.com/index.html.

Alright, how about this. Here is a list of some things. I don't know if they make any sense being in a list together and ordered the way they are, but it's my list and I'll do whatever the hell I want to do with it.

1) My girlfriend. - (Oh yeah, that just scored me a bunch of points.)

2) John's pizza – There is one in Time Square, but lucky for me there is also a store one block over on 64th. They don't sell slices, just pies. Get one with garlic on it. Good stuff.

3) www.homestarrunner.com – I know this is a very undergraduate kind of thing to dig, but I really think these guys know what funny is. I only recently got hooked on it after years of everyone I know saying how great it was. My personal favorite character is Homsar. You almost never see him, but when you do it's about as stupidly funny as it gets. Homestar himself is also great and honestly one of the best cartoon characters of the past twenty years.

4) A band called "The Blue Van". My friends Ben and Synge turned me on to them. They are a Danish band who are everything that Jet wants to be. Great screaming vocals, the best use of a keyboard that I've heard since Steppenwolf and a feel for how to play a ballad without losing their balls. (How bout them apples.) They've got a new album coming out that I hope doesn't suck, but pick up "Art of Rolling" if you want a sure thing.

5) Hairshirt – My good friend Joe Wack is one of the best writers around. His blog can be found at www.hairshirt.blogspot.com. Great commentary on the political and the day to day. If you can find his questionnaires for the new pope and supreme court appointees, you'll be very amused.

6) DVD burners – I just saved my complete music collection on six DVDs, a complete season of Scrubs on one and two seasons of Lost on three. I love compact things, unless they are apartments and grocery stores in NYC.

7) Pardon the Interruption – Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon are the best thing that has happened to sports television. They are unpretentious, self-deprecating, politically incorrect, funny as hell and also know a few things about sports. I don't have cable right now but I do have ESPN insider on-line, so I get to watch it whenever I want. (How's that for an unpaid advertisement?)

8) Battlestar Galactica – I'm not always a huge nerd, but I can be. I started buying this off of I-Tunes a few weeks ago because my friend Adam (a card carrying nerd) swore it was great. He was right. This show takes every good idea that the campy eighties series had, takes all the stupidity out of it (see Dirk Benedict), adds complex emotional plotlines and throws in a bunch of sex and violence. And man do I like the word "Frack".

9) The Cleveland Cavaliers – I would put all Cleveland sports teams here but the Browns are still pathetic (though on the right track, maybe?) and the Indians collapsed like a lung with a sixty-year Lucky Strike habit, so the Cavs are my only hope. A great article on ESPN.com pointed out how the Cavs had everything go wrong for them last year, still won fifty games and almost went to the Eastern conference finals. If anything that went wrong last year goes right and if Labron doesn't end up dying from a money overdose then the Cavs could possibly challenge for a title. That would be the first Cleveland championship of my lifetime. That's a long time. I'm old.

10) The Apartment – Just watched this movie again the other night. I wish I would have had a chance to work with Jack Lemmon. He's one of my idols. And HELLOOO MISS KUBLICK!!

11) Public Transpotation – Thank you mass transit. You get me almost everywhere I could possibly want to go in this crazy cooky town. If only those little yellow cards allowed for a cash advance, now that would be something.

And finally, something that I like that might make me sound gay.

12) Weight Watcher's Ice Cream – Damn I like these things. The cookie crumb covered ice cream bars are killer. I am having a love affair with this ice cream.

Okay, that's enough for now. We'll see how long it takes me to forget that I even have a blog. Until then hope for more soon, we'll see if I come through.
